This week I have a serious problem with my post. I want to talk to you about my biggest favourite, hungarian band called Vad Fruttik, but 2000 characters are too slim. It’s like a movie trailer with that strait voice of a man in my head: when Marcsi is starting to talk about her favourites – no one can stop her. (and of course there comes a superhero – David Hasselhoff from the Knight Rider, why not? – and finally stops her.)
Actually they have only one video, only one cd, but a million fan (I am one of them:). In normal case, I don’t think translate the names of the bands is neccessary or just useful but in this special case I have to do it. So, the band is called Vad Fruttik, where vad means wild, and fruttik is a kind offruity tasted candy, somewhere between marshmellows and a jawbreaker, everyone knows it in Hungary.
And now imagine a group of sweet goodies playing pop in the stage and singing about a yellow Zsiguli, a typical (not just) hungarian car from the 80’s. Do you understand what I’m trying to talk about? :) Yes, I’m just trying because of my age, I’m only 21. All I remember from the 80’s is not too much, maybe the desing of my mother’s skirts.
But back to music. A group of young, crooked, freaky hungarian guys wrote a song about their childhood, about what happened while they were sitting in playground and eating sand with a plastic shovel. Ok, maybe they were older. Maybe their parents had a Zsiguli, maybe not. Maybe it was their dreamcar. Maybe that Zsiguli was K.I.T.T. for them, from the hungarian version of Knight Rider:), and yes, finally came David Hasselhoff – and stopped her :).
You can find the whole story about the yellow Zsiguli and more information, photos and everything on their website in hungarian: http://vadfruttik.uw.hu (if you need other songs or information about them in english, just leave a comment).
Today I introduce you again a new column! Yesss...Budapest Starts really Here:) Marcsi"s weekly column is about...well...all about music.:)
It was a dark, starless night somewhere in the downtown of Budapest, in a little tobacco-smelling room, with a handmade sign on the door: nameless musicholics. I was sitting in an armchair, looking at the others in the circle, trying to tell them the truth. Than I stood up quickly, the music was turned off, everybody looked at me and I said...
- Hello, my name is Marcsi.
...Hello Marcsi.
- I am an addict. (applause) I am addicted to music but i don’t want to get betterJ
OK, I’m just joking. Actually I’m a real musicfreak, but I don’t care. Because my madness helps me to show you as much really-really great hungarian music as I can. I think music can be a brace between you and Hungary. My task is to write about hungarian bands, singers, concerts, festivals and anything related to music and Hungary. (maybe I will teach you folk songs. Wouldn’t it be nice?J) We have huge concert malls (Aréna, Pecsa, Főnix csarnok), small pubs, party boats, openair places or whatever you want, all over the country. And of course we have our own talented musicians whom I will talk about one by one (yes, One by one is a title of a Foo Fighters album too)
I’m not going to tell you what to listen, I just want to offer you music played by hungarians (pop, rock, jazz, folk, funk and everything) My offer for the week is a song of the band called Quimby, next week I will talk about them.
I want you to know more about hungarian music, so every week I will show other, well-known hits and performers from Hungary and of course I will tell you about international things too. Did you know that the Deep Purple or Woody Allen are giving a concert in two months in our country? And yes, it’s true... we had Gwen Stefani last week.
So come on, buy airplane/train/bus tickets or just fill up the engines and visit us. Sometimes I realise that I can talk about music all day long (lucky you, I have only 2000 characters here)!
